Improve a spoken introduction while preserving a natural performance.

Where the tool helps

Studio Sound is Descript’s AI feature for reducing background noise and echo while enhancing speech. That feature is useful to assess on a real recording, rather than treating cleanup as a substitute for good capture.

A practical creative workflow

  1. Record in the quietest available room and place the microphone consistently.
  2. Make a short test recording before delivering the complete introduction.
  3. Compare processed and original audio, particularly breaths and consonants.
  4. Edit the strongest performance, then check the final video with and without headphones.

What still needs human judgement

If processing makes the voice thin, metallic or unnatural, use less of it or record again. Leave enough pauses for the story to land. A direct, personable author introduction can be more effective than a heavily polished script that feels detached from the person who wrote the book.
